February 04 Beautiful dayToday was absolutely gorgeous!! The sky was so blue and the temperature was in the 50's! It was the perfect day for a hike. No clouds, only a mild breeze from time to time and the temperature was great! It was in the 50's and I actually hiked in short sleeves today. I loved it! February and this mild, WOW. I am sure we will get more winter like weather, but until then I will just enjoy this.
Zoe and I walked up Coal Canyon to just past the Rock Ponds. We saw 4 bands of horses. Magnum's band and Spin were high up under the rim just inside Coal Canyon, but as we were watching Spin trotted across the top and over into Main Canyon, probably to reunite with his band. I think he was trying to persuade one of Magnum's mares to defect. Magnum soon followed in Spin's footsteps and went over the top into Main Canyon also. Laramie and Nitro's bands were just past 2 Mile Pond. All the horses look really good. They sure know how to find food and take care of themselves! Kona and Traveler are sure growing. Kona will be a year old in May and Traveler will be a year old next month. My how time flies! They grow so fast! They will probably both stay with their family bands another year, maybe two, then Kona will go to another band and Traveler will become a bachelor. Guess I should take advantage of all the photo opportunites I can while they are still around. I am sure Kona will stay in the canyons, but Traveler could end up anywhere. It is always a good day when the weather is great and one can see horses.
