missing mustang stallion

I wanted to get the word out about this gorgeous boy. His story and contact information is on my blog:  http://nickolesphotography.wordpress.com/

This was passed along to me from Pam Nickoles. She also has a mustang boarded at this place. If anyone has any information, please use the contact info on Pam's blog (see above link).  This is not one of the Little Book Cliff Mustangs, but we all need to help each other!  How could anyone do that!! Please help if you have any information! Thank you all.

Picture Perfect Day

What a fantastic day! The temperature was in the 70's! There was a breeze blowing, but it felt good as the temperature climbed. I was privileged enough to have Pam Nickoles (see my links to go to her site and blog) and her husband Tom come to visit today.  She takes awesome photos of the wild horses! She has been to several different ranges and has lots of photos from all of them. She also has two DVD's out that have some of her photos and are set to music. They are fantastic! I highly recommend them.

We saw four bands today and they were just across the saddle in the bottom of Main Canyon. We spent quite a bit of time with them and got some pretty good photos. There were yearlings playing and stallions challenging. There was some mare stealing going on too. We also saw some big horn sheep. They came down to the water to drink and we were able to get some close photos of them. It just felt almost magical to have the big horns so close and to have all those horses nearby too. Couldn't ask for much more than that!

There were lots of people out and about today because of the weather. There were hikers and horse back riders. Everyone out enjoying the sunshine!

No new foals to report or anything else really, just a great day for a hike. The horses all look good too. They are starting to shed off their winter hair and they were all itchy. You could usually find at least one of them scratching on a bush or tree or rolling in the dirt.  Everything is pretty dry out there though and we really need some rain. It is supposed to rain most of next week. I sure hope it does, keep your fingers crossed.

My sister and her boyfriend went to the upper ranges on their ATV's yesterday and saw some of the horses from there. She said they all looked pretty good too. Some are a little thin, but better than they have been in some of the past years at this time. Hopefully, it won't be long before we can get in there with our vehicles!!

That is it for now. Hope to be out and about more with the nice weather. See you soon!

New photo book

Ok, so I am going to toot my own horn. I want to use this space for the horses of the Book Cliffs, but I decided to print a book of photos about these horses. You can find it at Blurb.com. It is called Little Book Cliffs Mustangs. Thanks for letting me brag.  Open-mouthed  Here is a link to the site. When you get there just type in the name of the book in the search area.  www.blurb.com

The Blues Brothers plus one

WOOHOO!!!  I was finally able to track down the blue roans and get a close look at them. What a treat! Although, at this time of year they look black.Confused  Inca has joined them too. The roans had Jaggs and her foal a couple of weeks ago, but have since lost her to Magnum and they are bachelors again. They were near Dog Bone, not too far up one of the hills. I was able to sit with them for about an hour. So cool!!   This is Inca's first stint as a bachelor. It will be fun to watch him develop over the years.

I had hiked in Main Canyon yesterday and saw nothing, nada, zero, zip!   Marty had gone in Coal Canyon and saw nothing there either.  It was so depressing. Then today, I went in the afternoon instead of the morning and voila! there they were. That is it for now. Plans are in the works to go again on Tuesday. Maybe I will get to see Jaggs and her foal that I haven't seen close yet. Wish me luck!
